Today we kick off a new sermon series on discipleship. There is a lot of misunderstanding by Christians as to what it is and what it is not. We are going to go to the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 16 & Luke 9 to learn.
OOPS -- correction -- Near the end of the sermon, I got tongued tied and said the opposite of what I intended to say and here's why. When I was 15, I had thyroid cancer -- a tumor the size of baseball. I was treated with radiation for 8 months and they made the decision to remove it. Ever since, I have been on Levothyroxine. Since December 26, I have not been falling asleep until 4, or 5 in the morning. My doctor feels it is thyroid related and I should have test results back soon. Saturday night, was no different. When I walked up to preach, I was exhausted.
So, here is what I intended to say, "If our salvation is based on works, which it is not, then we could lose our salvation." That is not what I said, "I said, We can lose our salvation by grace and not works." Whew! What a hopper. For the rectord, we are saved by grace and that same grace sustains and protects our salvation. So, when you get to that part, just ignore it. Thank you so much. I apologize for that verbal mistake in communication.
